This North Georgia mountain town consistently earns its reputation. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is a hit with younger kids; the Toccoa River is one of the best tubing runs in the state. Downtown Blue Ridge has improved significantly — plan lunch there.

Amicalola Falls State Park
Dawsonville, GA (~90 min)
Georgia's tallest cascading waterfall is about 90 minutes north near Dawsonville. The hike to the top is manageable for kids seven and up, and it stays genuinely cool near the falls even in mid-July. Combine with a quick stop in Dawsonville for lunch on the way back.

The UGA campus is at its most relaxed in summer — no student traffic, easy parking. Hit the State Botanical Garden of Georgia for free, walk College Avenue, and let the kids run on the Quad. The food scene has quietly become one of Georgia's best.
